SSC JE Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the notification for the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 for recruitment to various Junior Engineer posts in Government of India organizations and offices. A total of 1748 tentative vacancies have been announced. Eligible candidates can apply online from 2nd September 2026 to 22nd September 2026. The posts included in the examination are Group ‘B’ posts in Level-6 (Rs. 35,400–1,12,400) of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

Qualification
Applicants must possess the required educational qualification prescribed for the respective post as on the closing date of the online application.
- Junior Engineer (Civil): Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/Institute or the prescribed Diploma in Civil Engineering with required experience wherever applicable.
- Junior Engineer (Electrical): Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University, Institute or Board, depending on the organization.
- Junior Engineer (Mechanical): Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University or Institution.
- Junior Engineer (Electrical & Mechanical): Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or the prescribed three-year Diploma with required experience, depending on the organization.
- Junior Engineer (Telecom): Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation from a recognized University or Institute.
- Scientific Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering from a recognized institution/university.
For posts where experience is prescribed, the required experience must have been obtained after completion of the prescribed educational qualification. Internship, training and research experience obtained while acquiring the educational qualification will not be counted as the required experience.
Salary Details
Salary: Rs. 35,400/- to Rs. 1,12,400/- per month
Pay Level: Level-6
The posts included in the SSC Junior Engineer Examination are Group ‘B’ posts in Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.
Age Limit
The crucial date for determining the age limit is 1st August 2026.
- For posts with an age limit up to 30 years: Candidates must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1996 and not later than 1st August 2008.
- For posts with an age limit up to 32 years: Candidates must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1994 and not later than 1st August 2008.
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST Candidates: 5 years
- OBC Candidates: 3 years
- PwBD (Unreserved/EWS): 10 years
- PwBD (OBC): 13 years
- PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
- Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of the military service rendered from the actual age
- Defence Personnel disabled during hostilities (Unreserved/EWS/OBC): 3 years
- Defence Personnel disabled during hostilities (SC/ST): 8 years
Age relaxation will be applicable as per the Government rules and conditions mentioned in the official notification.

Selection Process
The selection process will be conducted through two Computer Based Examination papers followed by the applicable selection and verification procedures.
- Paper-I: Computer Based Examination
- Paper-II: Computer Based Examination
- Document Verification: For shortlisted/finally selected candidates as applicable
- Final Selection and Allocation: Based on Paper-II performance and post/organization preferences, subject to fulfilling the prescribed eligibility and post-specific requirements
Paper-I:
- General Intelligence and Reasoning – 50 Questions / 50 Marks
- General Awareness – 50 Questions / 50 Marks
- General Engineering/Relevant Subject – 100 Questions / 100 Marks
- Total: 200 Questions / 200 Marks
- Duration: 2 Hours
Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates obtaining the required qualifying marks will be shortlisted for Paper-II based on normalized marks.
Paper-II:
- Relevant Engineering/Subject – 100 Questions / 300 Marks
- Total: 100 Questions / 300 Marks
- Duration: 2 Hours
Negative Marking:
- Paper-I: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
- Paper-II: 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
Minimum Qualifying Marks:
- UR: 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- All other categories: 20%
Final selection and allocation of Post/Organization/Office will be based on the candidate’s performance in Paper-II and the post/organization preference submitted by the candidate.
Note: Candidates applying for certain Junior Engineer posts in the Border Roads Organization must satisfy the prescribed physical and medical standards, including the Physical Efficiency Test.

- Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR), if not already completed.
- Log in using your Registration Number and password.
- Go to the “Junior Engineer Examination, 2026” section under the Live Examination tab.
- Click on the “Apply” link.
- Select the appropriate post and qualifying educational qualification.
- Enter the required educational qualification and other details.
- Select the relevant subject/stream for the Computer Based Examination.
- Upload/complete the required photograph and signature details as prescribed.
- Carefully check all the details entered in the application form.
- Submit the online application form.
- Pay the applicable application fee through the available online payment modes.
- Save and take a printout of the submitted application form for future reference.
The online application form should be submitted well before the closing date to avoid any last-minute technical difficulties.
