SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 2536 Vacancies

SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026. The recruitment is being conducted for Group C posts including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ in various Ministries, Departments and Offices of the Government of India. There are approximately 2536 tentative vacancies. Eligible candidates can apply online from 7th September 2026 to 7th October 2026.
The vacancies are tentative. The final number of vacancies, along with post-wise and category-wise details, will be made available by the Commission after scrutiny of the vacancies reported by the concerned User Departments.

These Group C posts are available in various Ministries, Departments, Offices, Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies and Tribunals under the Government of India.

Qualification

Applicants must possess the required educational qualification on or before 7th October 2026.

  • For LDC/JSA and DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts, candidates must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
  • For DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Staff Selection Commission and Ministry of Culture, candidates must have passed 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.
  • Candidates appearing for the 12th Standard examination can also apply, provided they acquire the required qualification on or before 7th October 2026.

The result of the required qualifying examination must have been declared by the Board or University on or before the cut-off date. Mere processing of the result by the cut-off date will not satisfy the educational qualification requirement.

Salary Details

  • LDC/JSA: Pay Level-2 – Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 63,200
  • DEO: Pay Level-4 – Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100
  • DEO: Pay Level-5 – Rs. 29,200 to Rs. 92,300
  • DEO Grade ‘A’: Pay Level-4 – Rs. 25,500 to Rs. 81,100

Age Limit

Age Limit: 18 to 27 years

The age limit will be calculated as on 1st August 2026. Candidates born not before 2nd August 1999 and not later than 1st August 2008 are eligible to apply.

Upper age relaxation is applicable to eligible candidates as per Government of India rules.

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service rendered from the actual age

Application Fee

  • For Other Candidates: Rs. 100/-
  • For Women Candidates: No Fee
  • For SC Candidates: No Fee
  • For ST Candidates: No Fee
  • For PwBD Candidates: No Fee
  • For eligible Ex-Servicemen: No Fee

The application fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay Debit Card. The last date for online fee payment is 8th October 2026 up to 11:00 PM.

Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of the following stages:

  • Tier-I Computer Based Examination
  • Tier-II Computer Based Examination
  • Skill Test / Typing Test, wherever applicable
  • Document Verification

Tier-I Examination: The Tier-I examination will contain four sections:

  • English Language
  • General Intelligence
  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • General Awareness

Tier-I will consist of 100 objective-type questions carrying 200 marks. There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

Tier-II Examination: Candidates qualifying Tier-I will be required to appear in Tier-II. Candidates must qualify all the required sections of Tier-II.

  • Computer Knowledge Test is mandatory and qualifying in nature.
  • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operator posts.
  • Typing Test is applicable for LDC/JSA and other relevant posts, subject to the exemptions specified in the notification.

The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained in Section-I and Section-II of Tier-II, subject to qualifying the required sections. Final allotment will be made based on merit and the post preferences submitted by candidates.

Exam Centres in Tamil Nadu

As per the SSC CHSL 2026 notification, the following examination centres are available in Tamil Nadu:

  • Chennai
  • Coimbatore
  • Madurai
  • Salem
  • Tiruchirappalli
  • Tirunelveli
  • Vellore
  • Krishnagiri

The notification lists these centres under the jurisdiction of the SSC Southern Region, Chennai.

Note: Puducherry (8401) is also listed in the same regional centre list, but it is a Union Territory and is therefore not included in the Tamil Nadu list above.

How to Apply

Eligible candidates can apply online through the official SSC website.

  • Visit the official SSC website.
  • Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website if you have not already done so.
  • Login and select the SSC CHSL 2026 examination.
  • Enter the required personal and educational details.
  • Complete the photograph and signature requirements as instructed.
  • Pay the application fee, if applicable.
  • Preview the application form and verify all details carefully.
  • Submit the application before the last date.
  • Take a printout or save a copy of the submitted application for future reference.

Applications must be submitted online through the new SSC website or the My SSC mobile application. Candidates who have not generated OTR on the new website must complete a fresh OTR because the OTR generated on the old SSC website will not be functional on the new website.
