Southern Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Southern Railway has released Notification No. 01/2026 for the engagement of Act Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. A total of 4471 apprenticeship slots are available in different designated trades under various divisions, workshops and units of Southern Railway. The notification is for apprenticeship training and not direct employment. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online from 28th August 2026 to 27th September 2026 till 5:00 PM.

Fresher Category – 163 Vacancies

The Ex-ITI vacancies are divided among the listed Southern Railway units with a total of 4308 vacancies. The notification states that the vacancies shown are tentative and may be changed.

Qualification

Fresher Category

  • Fitter, Painter and Welder: Candidates should have passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system of education or its equivalent.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician – Radiology, Pathology and Cardiology: Candidates should have passed 12th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Ex-ITI Category

For Fitter, Machinist, MMV, Turner, Diesel Mechanic, Carpenter, Painter, Welder (G&E), Wireman, Advance Welder, Plumber, Draughtsman (Civil), Instrument Mechanic, Mechanic R&AC, Gas Cutter, MMTM and Structural Welder:

  • Passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system of education or its equivalent.
  • Passed ITI course in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI.
  • Possess a certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training in the respective trade.

Electrician:

  • Passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system with Science as one of the subjects or its equivalent.
  • Passed ITI course in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI.
  • Possess the required National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training certificate.

Electronics Mechanic:

  • Passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system with Science, including Physics and Chemistry, and Mathematics or its equivalent.
  • Passed ITI course in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI.
  • Possess the required National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training certificate.

Secretarial Assistant & Stenographer (English):

  • Passed 12th Class under the 10+2 system of education or its equivalent.
  • Passed ITI course in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI.
  • Possess the required National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training certificate.

Information and Communication Technology System Maintenance (ICTSM):

  • Passed 10th Class under the 10+2 system of education.
  • Passed ITI course in the relevant trade from a Government-recognized ITI.
  • Possess the required National Council for Vocational Training or State Council for Vocational Training certificate.

COPA/PASAA:

  • Passed 10th Class with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks under the 10+2 system of education.
  • Possess the National Trade Certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training in Computer Operator and Programming Assistant.

Important: The minimum 50% marks requirement in 10th Class is not applicable to SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Candidates who have already completed Act Apprenticeship, or Engineering Graduates, Diploma Holders or Vocational Certificate Holders who have one year or more of training or job experience after obtaining the qualification are not eligible under the Act Apprentice Rules, 1992.

Salary Details

This notification is for apprenticeship training. The notification provides a monthly stipend as follows:

  • Fresher – 10th Class: Rs. 8,200 per month
  • Fresher – 12th Class: Rs. 9,600 per month
  • Ex-ITI: Rs. 9,600 per month

During the second year of apprenticeship training, the prescribed minimum stipend will increase by 10%. During the third year, there will be a further 15% increase in the prescribed minimum stipend amount.

Age Limit

The age limit will be calculated as on the date of the notification.

  • Candidates must have completed 15 years of age.
  • Freshers should not have completed 22 years of age.
  • MLT candidates should not have completed 24 years of age.
  • Ex-ITI candidates should not have completed 24 years of age.
  • OBC-NCL candidates get up to 3 years relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • SC/ST candidates get up to 5 years relaxation.
  • PwBD candidates get up to 10 years relaxation.
  • PwBD + OBC-NCL candidates get up to 13 years relaxation.
  • PwBD + SC/ST candidates get up to 15 years relaxation.

SC/ST candidates must produce the required caste certificate during document verification. OBC candidates must produce a valid OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate for the current year along with the required self-declaration.

Application Fee

  • Application Processing Fee: Rs. 100/-
  • The fee is non-refundable.
  • The fee must be paid through online mode.
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates: No fee.

Candidates should take a printout of the acknowledgement generated by the system. This acknowledgement is required at the time of document verification.

Selection Process

Selection will be made through a merit list prepared from the eligible candidates who apply for the notification.
Fresher Category
For Fresher candidates, marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted to 200 marks and the merit list will be prepared based on the converted marks, while ensuring the required minimum percentage in Matriculation.
Ex-ITI Category
For Ex-ITI candidates, Matriculation marks will be converted to 100 marks and ITI marks will also be converted to 100 marks. Both will be added to make a total of 200 marks. Equal weightage will be given to Matriculation and ITI marks.
MLT Category
For MLT candidates, marks obtained in Higher Secondary with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology will be converted to 200 marks for preparing the merit list.

If two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate will be preferred. If their dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed the Matriculation examination earlier will be considered.
